Design & Construction:
The Rebirth of a Forgotten Hudson River Vessel
some even giving up their free periods to work on their pettiauger.
The oak transom was built and fitted and slowly but precisely, the first Hudson River perriauger in more than a century and a half took shape. Planking began in early 2007. The planks were made from white cedar, one advantage of this was that since the school had no bending equipment, the cedar being softer, could be hand bent to fit the countours at the bow. The planking preceeded rather quickly and by the late spring was complete.
At this time a new wrinkle in the plans occured, Greg was offered and accepted a more lucrative position at a large school district and accepted to begin in the Fall of 2007. SInce he would not be at the Academy and the classes that had worked so hard on the boat would also be moving on, the decision was made to have Greg finish the boat
