Our activities will not be confined to Kingston, either. Up and down the Northeast, there are reenactments in which 18th century vessels are an integral part, we hope to participate in at least some of these. Check the Events Page for dates and times.

One idea we have is to participate as the representative of the 18th century in the Great Hudson River Quadracentenial in 2009, the 400th anniversary of the discovery and exploration by Henrick Hudson of the river that today bears his name. We are considering taking our Mercury to many towns on the River where a pettiauger ferry serviced the people and bring a bit of their history back to life for them.

These plans are in the beginning stages and will be added here as they mature.

Plans for the Future:

Mercury will make her home during the Spring, Summer and Fall Seasons, for the foreseeable future at the Hudson River Maritime Museum on the Waterfront in Kingston, NY where she will have a beth on the Museum's docks. When not in use she will be there as an example of a Dutch periauger with historical displays for visitors to view.

Often, on a schedule that has yet to be determined, we will run living history programs at the Museum for local schools as well as the public in an attempt to bring alive the life of the rivermen of the 18th

Century. We will demonstrate the skills of the sailor, sailing techniques, as well as explain and demonstrate the historical significance of the vessel and it's contribution to life and commerce on the Hudson River. We may even take student and visitors on small excursions and give them a hands-on taste of the life of a crewman on a pettiauger. We have hopes of, from time to time, recreating the ferry service from Rondout to Kipsbergen (Rhinecliff) that was the inspiration for
our project.
